Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
We enjoy when our children pick the right kind of friends. We want them to choose other kids who have good morals and who are respectful and obedient. We also really desire them to find Christian friends who can encourage them in their walk with Jesus Christ.
As adults we need to take to heart our own advice and choose friends who can help us in our Christian life. We need to have an opportunity to help others, and we need friends that we can disciple and strengthen, but we also need friends who can disciple us and can strengthen us.
There are many types of friends. Some make us laugh. Some are fun to be with. Some are friends that we like to help. There is a type of friend who is not just helpful, but needful. They are the type of friend who seek the wisdom of God and who can help us gain a new understanding of God’s word and God’s will in our lives. When we sit with them, we pick their brain and learn what has helped them to grow in their life. We learn more about Jesus Christ just by being with them and emulating what they do.
An Exercise to increase our Faith: Ask someone that you respect in their walk with God to have lunch with you. Find out their secrets to their consistent Christian life. Learn what they have done to increase their faith and try to imitate the parts of their life that have helped them raise godly children in a godly home environment.
